Well picked up my new Mango Jeep on Monday and wife scratched it already. She decided to wash it tonight and had the wipers pulled out and then decided to lift the hood, I heard the scratch. There are two of them, about half an inch long. I tried to buff them out but two deep for that. Except repainting a week old hood, are there any other cheaper options?

How deep are we talking?. Are you seeing metal? Through the clear coat?

Is it something that you might be able to apply some abrasive compound to do a small paint correction with a random orbit porter cable?

I don't want to be the guy who says "embrace your first battle wound" or "who cares, it's a jeep". That's cheesy.

I am with you, it sucks. Just please don't take it out on your wife.

That'll be the last time that happens..... You'll do worse eventually. x2 on the touch up paint. Trim the bristles on the brush down to almost a single bristle and build up layers till it's flush with the finish. It'll still show slightly, but not as much, and it'll protect from the elements.

What about a clear coat, as far as the tubes you see? Or is it combined into one?

What I do on mine is use a non permanent marker that is close to my color and mark over the scratch. The marker seems to stay in the clear coat scratch but rubs off the surrounding area. Might have to do it every now an again as it wears off. Permanent markers will not do well because it is hard to blend it

I just put a 3" scratch in my hood with wiper. 2012 JK , my first scratch. So I went to post and warn everybody. Found out I wasn't the first idiot. Two years ago I found a clear coat scratch remover pen on Ebay auction. Got it delivered from China. Total cost = 2 cents. Never used it till now. I didn't figure it would work because I could catch my fingernail in the scratch. It looked like it was through the clear coat. I can't even tell were the scratch is. The stuff cures with UV (Sunlight). Should have gotten 8 cents worth. Maybe I still can.

This will help: it gives it character and second now go wheel the freaking thing, don't mall crawl it up.

Tell your wife a lift and 35 inch tires will fix that right up. Add a winch and you'll even forgive her.

It does suck, sorry to hear it. Dont take it out on her, it happens. Sounds like you got some excellent advice on what to try. I know Mopar makes some color match touch ups you could look at as well. Quadratec sells them for about $10 U.S. I havent used them so no idea on quality.
