On the 3.8, the oil is going to shoot out 2 to 3 feet when you remove the plug. Make sure your pan sit that far back and be ready to slide it forward as the oil drains. Old fashioned, non clumping kitty litter workd wonders for soaking up spills and is very cheap. Leave it for a day and then just sweep it up.
Same on the 3.6. Rookie mistake I won't make again.

It's unusual so don't feel bad. I've been changing oil on vehicles for 35 years and never had that happen until the JK. Unless of course my memory of changing oil in my CJ is shot, which is quite possible.

I lay out a large flattened cardboard box under my Jeep when I change the oil. Keeps oil off my driveway and is easier for *me* to slide on to get under it.

when I am done, the whole things slides back out from under it with the catch pan and everything still on it. Keeps me from having to reach under to get that all out from under the Jeep. i don't have the lift on my jeep that a lot of you do. Getting under isn't easy.

This has to be the easiest vehicle I have ever changed oil on. Less than 20 minutes total. It took a little more time only because I thought the drain plug was a 1/2" and it is a 14mm. I always put my drain pan in a plastic lid of a large tupperware container. This catches any spills and is convenient when taking the used oil to Autozone for disposal. I even lucked out that the filter for the 3.8 is the same as my BMW motorcycle so the filter wrench fits too. How good is that?

:whistling: Heh Heh, I just attach the 1', of 3/8" hose to my FUMOTO valve and drop oil into the drain pan-

No fuss, no muss-

Since I have yet to see my wrangler or the underside of one, is the oil pan area protected by anything? Or is using A fumoto valve asking for trouble?

:whistling: NOPE, nothing protects the oil pan and it's foolish to use a FUMOTO vlv, without a skid plate and-

Always carry the original drain plug/oil with you !!
