I've got a 10" in a custom built box I made (so the dang thing would fit in the back) and a 1200 watt amp to power it. Unfortunately after spending $$$ on the rest I got a cheapie head unit from Wally World that is starting to go south on me. Added just enough bass to vibrate the mirrors when I have it cranked and adds just enough thump to slightly feel it at regular levels without taking up too much trunk space. I still have enough room for two ammo cans, mapbook, netting and box o' bungee cords in the back. Don't be too impressed by the ammo cans though, one of them is a tiny one but the other is full sized.

Sub enclosures can be had at:

Their products are fantastic, although a bit pricey.

Actually it sounds amazing! For one it bounces off the tailgate so it amplifies it a bit and two I wanted to be able to back up to a campfire or at the beach and still enjoy the bass. I'll be adding two 6x9s on pivots off of the rear vertical roll bar to help with the mids and highs when parked. But when I had the sub flipped the seat sucked up all the sound and I didnt like it rubbing on the dust guard.

:thumb: I used to experiment with sub placement in my older vehicles and noticed that the closer they are to the back the worse they sounded. The bass was always louder and cleaner when there was a decent gap between the sub and the back to allow the sound waves to expand. I was curious as I haven't seen any Jeeps with the box built like that, most are downfiring unless they remove their seats for larger subs.

I was thinking about getting one of those. How do you have it installed in the Jeep? Is the speaker facing the side or back of the Jeep? Also, can you hear it with the top off while you are driving?

thanks,!

I added one of these to a Sony head unit with Polk marine speakers. I'm really happy with it and it fits nice in the Bestop InstaTrunk. I went with a powered sub because I wanted the option of taking it out and I added an electrical quick disconnect so I can do it easily.

Sounds great even at 65 mph with the top down. :punk::punk::dance::punk::punk:

IMHO, the sub must be down firing to get bass with the top off, it certainly seems to be the most efficient way while topless.

It's sideways in the Bestop Insta-trunk. the speaker is facing the passenger side of the jeep. I can get a pic when it stops raining.

My jeep gets about as much bass as a jeep can make. Here's what I did.. I have infinitys speakers (no not the ones that come with jeeps now days. So I have the two on the sound bar and then the two 3x5s I have them hooked up to a 300 watt Orion amp defiantly puts out bass and a louder and better sound quality. I then had a custom box built to down fire a 10 inch roxsford fosgate 1000 watt sub that's hooked up to a 1000 watt kicker amp. I have the amp turned up about 40% . My friends always know when I'm close they say they can here my base when I'm about a 1/4 mile down the street.

Not quite mine is facing the tailgate and I get plenty with the top off. Making face down makes the car vibrate when it hits making you feel it. That makes your mind think its louder then it is.

MTX RT8PT Road Thunder 120-watt powered 8" subwoofer at Crutchfield.com
I'm seriously considering this one. So... In your opinion, 120 watts powers it quite nicely? And I could take the sub out to bedline the box and what not?

I ended up buying the MTX RT8PT Road Thunder. I also installed it inside an instatrunk in the back. It has plenty of power and can be heard while driving with the top off. It really fills in the bass nicely that was missing from my speaker bar and other speakers. I also added the front dash tweeters that you can get from Quadratec.

Quadratec Exclusive JW-TWEET - Super Tweeters (Pair) for 97-06 Jeep® Wrangler TJ & Unlimited - Quadratec

The system sounds great now. I recommend the MTX to anyone who wants to improve the sound in their jeep and get some good quality bass.

Im also looking to get more bass out of my jeep, I have polk speakers that sounds amazing but its bassless lol..I went on crutchfield to check it out and it got pretty good reviews I might go for it. What amp are you running?

I have a 8 in the back facing the away from the front. And my 600 watt amp is next to it. There is a jeep trunk saver in the back. If i tilt my sub i.e. \ = like that. Could i fit a 10. 8 is biggest it can do standing up. And i saw something about a slim amp. What is the largest size they make that would fit behind the glove box? Then i could have 2 10's in the back!

Thanks. I'd like to see it
Well, I installed a Bestop TrailMax rear seat and lost the InstaTrunk… I'm still trying to sort that out with Bestop. Sorry about no pic. I completely forgot about it. Maybe today, I hope.

Edit: never mind I see you bought one already. Sorry I never got that pic to you.

Yeah, i think it's powered nicely. It can very easily be removed, in fact, I plan on installing a high amp plug, so I can just unplug and remove without a chance of the wires shorting.
