Hey Everyone - Any ideas and/or pics of how how you all improved on the lack of bass in these toys? Subwoofers, etc?
How does that sub sound firing directly into the tailgate?jlstearn said:Sorry it took so long its nothing impressive but a work in progress. Here are the pics.
:thumb: I used to experiment with sub placement in my older vehicles and noticed that the closer they are to the back the worse they sounded. The bass was always louder and cleaner when there was a decent gap between the sub and the back to allow the sound waves to expand. I was curious as I haven't seen any Jeeps with the box built like that, most are downfiring unless they remove their seats for larger subs.Actually it sounds amazing! For one it bounces off the tailgate so it amplifies it a bit and two I wanted to be able to back up to a campfire or at the beach and still enjoy the bass. I'll be adding two 6x9s on pivots off of the rear vertical roll bar to help with the mids and highs when parked. But when I had the sub flipped the seat sucked up all the sound and I didnt like it rubbing on the dust guard.
I added one of these to a Sony head unit with Polk marine speakers. I'm really happy with it and it fits nice in the Bestop InstaTrunk. I went with a powered sub because I wanted the option of taking it out and I added an electrical quick disconnect so I can do it easily.
Sounds great even at 65 mph with the top down.unk:

It's sideways in the Bestop Insta-trunk. the speaker is facing the passenger side of the jeep. I can get a pic when it stops raining.I was thinking about getting one of those. How do you have it installed in the Jeep? Is the speaker facing the side or back of the Jeep? Also, can you hear it with the top off while you are driving?
thanks,!
Not quite mine is facing the tailgate and I get plenty with the top off. Making face down makes the car vibrate when it hits making you feel it. That makes your mind think its louder then it is.Richd1963 said:IMHO, the sub must be down firing to get bass with the top off, it certainly seems to be the most efficient way while topless.
Thanks. I'd like to see itcoley said:It's sideways in the Bestop Insta-trunk. the speaker is facing the passenger side of the jeep. I can get a pic when it stops raining.

I'm seriously considering this one. So... In your opinion, 120 watts powers it quite nicely? And I could take the sub out to bedline the box and what not?I added one of these to a Sony head unit with Polk marine speakers. I'm really happy with it and it fits nice in the Bestop InstaTrunk. Well, I installed a Bestop TrailMax rear seat and lost the InstaTrunk… I'm still trying to sort that out with Bestop. Sorry about no pic. I completely forgot about it. Maybe today, I hope.Thanks. I'd like to see it
Yeah, i think it's powered nicely. It can very easily be removed, in fact, I plan on installing a high amp plug, so I can just unplug and remove without a chance of the wires shorting.I'm seriously considering this one. So...
