ok guys heres my problem, im thinking about making the plunge and dropping 10gs on a 5.5 lift 35s on my LJ. Now my real problem is how the hell is my dog going to get in and out of the jeep. Now as much as i would love to always have steps or something for the dog to get into i don't think it is practical for me to have in the jeep at all times. Does anyone have any ideas that i could bring the the table.

For the dog lovers out there she's a German Shepard 85 lbs, and its actually her jeep not mine..

my 70 pound pit isn't the most graceful and learned his lesson the first time he went to jump in and landed flat on his back. I have a 6.5 inch long arm and 37 inch boggers and the best way i found is to grab him and throw him on up. P.S this also is the same strategy i use with my girlfriend haha.

I gave up trying to coax my 75 lb. black lab to jump up into my TJ on 35's with 5" of lift, I just lift him up into the Jeep now. He's not much of a Jeep dog anyway, he gets scared on the usual rock crawling trails and crawls into my lap until we're back on a smooth part of the trail lol.

With the doors off my 95 pound boxer jumps right in, I have 4 inch and 35's. He gets in my wife's lifted XJ on 33's. Sometimes he "misses" and his back legs don't make it, then I just give him a little push...

He is about 4.5 years.

8 pound dog (she thinks she's a 90 pound dog), so its an easy lift into the Jeep. ;)

I'm not lifted that I know of but my Husky has no issues jumping in (unless she is lazy) but what about getting your dog's front feet up then boosting him or her into the rig?

Hi there, What type of foldable step did you find to fit under the seat? Do you mean front or back seat?
We have two Chow rescues (1 is 12 and the other will be 13 next month) that just recently started having problems getting into our JKU now and then. But we have the back seats folded down all the time to give them both room (they are not small Chows 65-75 lbs.) and the Jeep is our everything vehicle - grocery shopping etc. and they always go with us. That is why we haven't looked at ramps that would take up too much room in the vehicle when not in use.
Thanks for any help from anyone.

I've got no lift, but my 55lb lab mix is having issues with her stifle. She's always gone on the trails (walking) with us, but has literally worn her joints out. I bought a telescoping ramp off craigslist and spent the afternoon training her on it. The surgeries for hips and knees on dogs are a bit sketchy. I would avoid issues and get them trained on something so they don't have to jump.

I have 2 labs(97lbs and 115lbs) and they jump up so that their front legs are in the jeep and their hind legs are still on the ground, then I just lift their hind legs in by lifting them by their thighs and they do the rest. Easy! Btw, JKU with 35s and 2.5 rockcrawler which is basically 3.5 lift

Dang, I thought I invented that. We taught our 70lb golden to do the same. She will jump up and put her front feet on the passenger seat and then I kinda slip my left arm under her waist and grab a hand full of fur near her hip and up she goes. It works very well and not nearly as much trouble as picking the whole dog up. 98 TJ, 4.5" lift, 36" swampers

We have an 85lb Great Pyranees Lab mix. She can't jump and is hard to lift.
We have a 6 ft long sliding lift she can walk up and down from the cargo area of our JKUR 3" loft 35x18a12.5. Works well and is about 3' x5" when closed.
We also have one that rolls up like a tank tread. 13"wide, 6' long about 30" diameter closed.
We both like t.he slide

Off Topic kinda:
any pictures of your dog? I'd kinda like to see her. There's a pets thread in Pictures sub category if you don't wanna get too off topic on this thread
Who has pets? Lets see em

On topic:
My 100lb Great Pyrenees generally has no issue jumping into my TJ, 4" on 33s", very few times in the beginning he had issues and would put his front paws on the step then look at me to pick up his hind legs. But for the past year or so he gets in and out no problem.

I know the ramp idea was mentioned already - and I don't know how much work you want to put in, (and I'm mainly spit-balling) but what about something like you see on the back of U-hauls and the like. kind of a pocket telescoping ramp thing... Like a pocket door... But with a ramp. Or even something that slides along the floor (that would fit under the seat when in)? You could bolt down a "sleeve" (angle iron or AA Channel) to the floor on either side of the ramp. I wouldn't think it'd take up too much room... If you get the right sized angle iron/ AA Channel typ thing.

AA Channel = Aluminum Association Channel = MetalsDepot® - Buy 6061 Aluminum Channel

I have an '05 Rubicon Unlimited with 6" of lift on 35"s. I also have two German Shepherds, one is 11 years old, the other is 8 with bad hips. When they were younger the could jump in the back with no problem, but now it has become difficult for them. I have two solutions: 1.) I bought a six-foot folding ramp at a pet store (http://www.wag.com/dog/p/productname-102775 - $150), super-easy for them to walk up into the back of the Jeep. Only issue is, after I fold it in half, I have to carry a three foot ramp that needs to be strapped down when off-roading. Not a big problem, but a nuisance.

The other solution is, I open the tailgate and they have been trained to put their front paws on floor of the Jeep. I grab them under the thighs and lift them into the Jeep. Not as hard as dead-lifting an 85lb dog, but can be messy if they've been swimming or playing in the rain.

I tell him to jump up and he jumps up... then again it's a 45# 1/2 Chocolate lab with part pit/boxer/? and he can clear a couch or jump up on a kitchen island.

dogramp.com or the like. There are many on amazon or other pet sites. I use one for mine to walk up. It folds and i carry it with me. Jumping down all the time can't be all that good for the joints.

Two recommendations. One is the OttoStep at Vehicle Dog Step | Otto Step - which I have in my JKU, and I added a simple hooking for it in the trunk, so it stays put whenever the girls are not climbing aboard.

Or this other, slightly more expensive version that can stay on the 2" adapter when you are driving.

twistep

OK, it won't work if you're rock-crawling... But it'll do in most cases. And it can even be used by the Human, who wants to reach the top of the Jeep. Like, for washing its roof ?

And if you navigate the whole discussion stream Who has pets? Lets see em then you'll find pics of what I did in the rear of our JKU - the girls have all the room there, I even had to purchase a rear cargo carrier for my occasional luggage ? Got this one, and am loving that purchase ! They even delivered to Europe !
