Some of their filters are made by WIX (65.. and 75mm) while most are made by Purolator. The open ones may also be made by Champion (another good one). Either way, the WIX ones sold at Filter1 are a fantastic deal. I picked up around 21. Why pay the dealer $8 when they probably get it for $2.50?

Are you sure? I was told the OEMs were made by WIX.

I said this, as this is the case with my other cars, but a number of members corrected me and told me that Jeep does NOT add any additives to the oil when the Jeep is brand new, which kills your benefits. If the oil does not have added moly's, then there is no harm in switching it out immediately.
I said to run "standard" oil not factory supplied oil.
There are no additives in the factory supplied oil, it is just a good idea to run regular oil for a few thousand miles to allow the rings to seat, etc...
I've been told (correct me if I'm wrong) that synthetics have too low of a COF to allow this to happen. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of synthetics, but I think you should wait for a few oil changes before using the "good stuff" ...

I did today at 1040 miles

This comes out of the manual:

The engine oil installed in the engine at the factory is a high quality energy conserving type lubricant. Oil changes should be consistent with anticipated climate conditions under which vehicle operations will occur. For the recommended viscosity and quality grades refer to "Maintenance Procedures" in "Maintaining Your Vehicle". NON-DETERGENT OR STRAIGHT MINERAL OIL MUST NEVER BE USED

So I have always been taught that the oil from the factory should be left in until the first oil change because it is intended for engine break-in. Basically it is special.

Anyone else go by this philosophy?

All my cars I have done this too and they all have never had problems and exceeded expected MPG.
