Hey all,

Brought home a 2011 Rubicon Unlimited last night, upgraded from the 98 TJ 4.0 I6. Just looking around the jeep and noticed this switch. I'm sure it has been asked 100x but it's a bit hard to search for it (looked through the owners manual too, no luck).

Please let me know if there's anything else I need to be familiar with seeing that I'm new to the JKU. Thanks all!

If you look just below the handle you use to release the center console storage compartment, there's a 110-volt (like in your home) power outlet. That switch on the dash turns it on and off----vehicle ignition must be on for it to work.

I forget the rating for how much power it puts out. It's not enough for major appliances, but it's great for charging digital camera batteries or maybe running a laptop computer or something like that.

The would be the available parallel stall indicator (PSI) for when you take your JK to the Mall...obviously your TJ did have that. Basically you push the button, and the jeep will search for an open parallel stall, when it finds on a light will illuminate. :happyyes:

Now I must plug the shop vac in and test it :).

Thanks all, there are so many damn buttons in this thing, she's loaded! Off to research some mods now!
Shop vac will probably try to pull too much power... I don't remember off the top of my head but I think that circuit is 12v/20A to 120v/2A - you may want to check the fuse first and have a spare handy :)

Good luck!

I'm jeaouls! You have a 2011, my friend had a 2007 Compass and had a standard outlet....yet my 2015 Sport S with every option except Alpine doesn't have an outlet....

I've used mine for several things, but mostly small battery chargers (phone, tablet, flashlight batteries, camera batteries). It will NOT work for a small Keurig brewer (hunting camp and needed a fix :)), a small space heater or pretty much anything that draws power for a heating element.
It did work for my Dad's breathing machine as he had an episode when we were out fishing and I've never been more thankful for that outlet.

Glad to hear all worked out for you there. That's scary, but quick thinking on your part!

Thanks for the info guys, I doubt I'd ever use it but glad it's there!

I keep an extension cord in the Jeep and on long adventures run it from there to the electronic pacifiers of the two little journey haters but destination lovers.

I love that thing! I have a Droid Turbo which (oddly enough) has a charger called a "Turbo charger" - charges the phone very quickly.

Can use a regular charger but when the TC is used the phone displays that. Low and behold, plug it in and it works great!

Comes in handy when/if the power goes out too.

Hmm my 2014 Sport S has one - but I also have the Alpine system

and I run my LED Christmas lights off it :)

So odd! I have 3.73, max tow, Katzkin, heated seats, remote start, hard top, etc.....but not apline or the 12v outlet! UGH!

I think it was part of the connectivity group but I can't remember - let me track down my window sticker.....

I have 3.73's, max tow, heated seats, hard top (no remote start mines a manual) but the 430 (non nav) with the Alpine system and the connectivity group

EDIT: Mines listed under my heated seats and Alpine system - but I'm guessing it might actually be part of the Freedom Edition package

And because of that, I see no real use for the 115 volt outlet. If I need to charge my phone or tablet, I would simply use one of the USB ports. For my laptop, I would use one of the 12v outlets.
Besides charging my camera batteries (GoPro can really suck down the juice), I also use my inverter to run a 60' string of LED Christmas lights at night when I'm camping; adds some light and makes the campsite more festive (even makes the whiskey taste better)

The 115 volt outlet is marked 150 watts max (about 1.3 amps). It is meant to charge phones, tablets and laptops.

Phones charge much faster on the 115 volt outlet than the USB outlet. I use it for that.
