Hello, I needed an opinion on whether or not it is a good idea to go through puddles fast and splash the car or should I go medium to low speed so that water doesn't come in the engine air intake.

Thanks :drinks:

First...it's a Jeep not a car... I'm guessing you have a manual trans ??? Are you in low transferase or high? How deep is the water crossing? Never push in the clutch when in deep water because the pressure plate will get soaked. Slow and steady. I never go fast through water crossings to minimize the chance of sucking in water in the air intake.
Shallow puddles??? go for it if you want to splash and get everything muddy and dirty. I tend to go around them to help keep the trails from getting trashed. This is all just my opinion so take it for what it's worth.
Oh and Welcome to the forum from Colorado!!!

You go thru "puddles" when you have too and then - slow. In a Jeep, Never in a car.

I look at water like I look at rocks. If Beer, my Wife (in a bikini) or Tussen is on the other side then - yes.
Otherwise probably not. Drama is in my rear view though....
as they say YMMV.

Thanks, this forum is awesome and has helpful stuff. I am also trying to get used to everything.

Normal street puddles are not an issue. I usually slow a little for puddles in the street. There is a corner near my home that after a rain always has standing water in the right lane at the intersection where I turn right. If there is no traffic coming the other way, I swing wide to avoid the puddles, not because either Jeep will ingest water, but because I just down like splashing water up on my vehicles. If there is traffic, I go through normally and splash up a little water.

If the puddle is in the traffic lane of a street that I am not familiar with, I tend to slow down a little in case there is a hidden pot hole in the water.

BTW: Both Jeeps are stock height with stock tire sizes.

When it rains i always try to follow a Prius so if I don't make it I can get towed out.

As fast as you can. If the water is a UUUGE puddle, big and deep enough, it will automatically reduce your speed for you....

I will say with all this rain lately, I mean huge rains, I've forded water on roads where everyone else was turning around. Piece of cake.

I guess speed is determined by the description in how you cross it. To drive through a puddle, speed probably won't matter. To ford water, go slow. I was doing sixty once in my pickup truck and hit a river going across the road. Brought to me an almost instant standstill without touching the brakes.

There were some deeper crossings in the mountains. We would go through them backwards to keep water off the points and distributor on the engine. Rotor and cap, remember them? Now you have to file an environmental impact report to cross a stream.

That would be fun.

Go into the local Peppy Boys or Auto-Erotica store walk up to the recent VoTech Grad and say.

"I need some ignition parts for my 2018 Jeep

ok, what can I get you?

"Umm a distributor, rotor and points. I have a 3.6 4 cyl turbo with 4.11's" (just for fun)

Maybe just call RockAuto - they play a guitar while you order I think....
