I have a 13 JKUS and I have the 17 in black Moab wheels. What are the widest tires I can run on those wheels? I knkow I can go 285/70/17 but can I do wider with 1.5 spacers? I don't have a lift but may do a leveling kit. I don't want to go much taller just wider.
12.5" wide is about max... Some tire shops may not even mount that, as they are technically outside "suggested" widths, but as a practical matter you can go wider than suggested. Currently I am running 35x12.5x17 on the stock rims. I have seen 37s mounted on factory rims, guessing those are 13.5" wide, not sure I would do that. Wide tire on skinny rim will let you air down a little more without worrying about unseating a bead, but at some point the cons outweigh the pros.

The word "calcs" in my post links to a calculator where you can input metric and get the inch tire sizes (and vice-versa).

unfortunately new wheels aren't in the budget right now
Tires with smaller wheels are actually less expensive. Take a look at www.discounttiredirect.com and you will be surprised to learn that 16" wheels and new tires will be cheaper that tires alone for the stock 17 wheels and spacers.

daggo66 is correct. I went with 305/70/16 (33's) on level8 trackers back in Jan for that very reason. I got a great deal from discount tire direct.

No, that calcs to a 33x12x17, and you will look pretty wide with this setup. On stock rims, you will want at least 1.5" spacers or new rims with a 4" backspace, otherwise you will rub on the sway bar up front.

Since you are staying at 33", you might not need to lift.

I don't have pics at 305/65/17, but I was close to that at 305/70/17 (34x12x17). I have no lift but a fender trim instead. Your width of tire will be the same, and your tire-to-fender gap will probably look nearly equivalent if you stick with the 2.5" lift. EDIT: Also, all these pics are with Spidertrax 1.5" spacers. I still run them to this day, but I have upgraded to 35x12.5x17" tires when the ones pictured below wore out.

love the job you did trimming the fenders.

Thanks again.

To me, that 305/70/17 with fender trim is the real sweet spot. Max tire, min effort.

I have posted in the past about the changes needed when sticking to no lifts and 35" so I won't repeat here, but to bring it back around to the OP, I think his tire size is near perfect.

Yep. IIRC, you may have to modify (cut) the bumpers on the tailgate. I think I just ditched mine. No issues, no adapters, no problems.
With a tire that size, I probably wouldn't ditch the bumpers, as they help stop the tire from moving around which is hard on the tailgate and mount. If you can't modify the factory spacers to fit, get the Daystar ones that are trimmable to fit so that you get a nice snug spare mount.
