Since my Jeep will be a DD parked at work every day I'm interested in Rock rails that will also server to deter/stop fellow motorists doors from dinging my new Jeep. My wife's JK has side steps that do the trick but I want real rock rails.

Rock rails, not just for the trail, but mall protection as well.

I can't really help there. My defense against door dings is my lift height. Most cars open their doors directly into my rock rail. BUT my Jeep gets wheeled and has dents and scratches already so it doesn't really bother me.

Hey wait a minute............ I thought my rails were there to protect my JKU from "rocks" and not idiots who can't control their doors/shopping carts. I thought that is what parking in the empty corner of the parking lot was for...

In the city there are no empty corners of the parking lot:eek: At least not in Boston. I want triple function rock rails:

1. Protect from rocks while wheeling

2. Place for my kid's/wife to step

3. Protect my doors from careless motorists which are very abundant in this area. I actually get pleasure watching someone slam their door open into my wife's step bars on her Jeep.

Ya, I was poking fun sir... It is getting harder and harder to find the empty parking lots out here in the IE as well.

I was in the exact same boat as you, 3 reasons. I went with Ace, put them on yesterday. They definitely look like they will do the job for all three.

Ace = made in the USA
Smitty = China

By and far I have found the BEST deterrent to keep people from getting too close is......
A nice, thick coat of MUD

People won't park too close because they don't want to get any on 'em.

Ha. If everyone drove Jeeps door dings would be far less of an issue. The doors are so narrow you really have to try hard to open them into anything. It used to be a real problem in my garage and my wife and I had to be very careful how we parked to keep the kids from slamming the doors into our own cars (which happened several times in the past).

Now with two Jeeps parked in there sloppy parking isn't an issue. The doors are never even close to hitting anything.

LOD will server your "checklist" well

As for just protecting from car doors, shopping carts, ect...all of them I would imagine would work just fine as they would be the first contact point of a door or shopping cart, even the stock rubi rails.

I think I see a clean spot on there...try harder next time
Oh, this one isn't mine.
I don't think mine has ever been any near as muddy as that

When he was coated in mud once I noticed people beating a WIDE path around him to avoid the mud.
A little light bulb went off and an evil laugh to go with it.

Wow, the smartassery is running wild in this thread. For a second I thought I had clicked on j****un*******.com.

I find that the ACE rock rails do an EXCELLENT job of protecting from dents in the doors from other people, shopping carts, kids, etc. They also serve as excellent step bars. And of course, they serve as trail protection. I bought mine for ALL of the reasons above, plus they are made in USA and the price is fantastic. If the only thing I wanted was rock protection, I wouldn't have bought the ACE bars.

U don't think they'll compromise ground clearance but they do.. I had rugged ridge version n there were obstacles I couldn't get over cuz of them..
