Loctite the tire mount to the carrier and wait a day or two before putting the tire back. I had an issue with my Maximus-3 tire carrier and Loctite fixed the issue.

 

Did your carrier have a pivoting point? That's where mine rattles but not sure how I can fix it. I can't loctite it since it has to move since the carrier is part of the rear tailgate and bumper.

 

Mine has a tie rod link that connects the tire carrier to the tailgate. It only moves when you open/close the tailgate and if you manually move it up/down. Otherwise, excessive movement /noise should not be there.

 

I think my rattle is coming from the tierod itself.

 

Maybe someone with the same tire carrier can chime in. You can also go to your local 4wp and get some insights from them since they sell smittybilt like hot cakes
