So the sorry excuse for a power plant is out of the jeep. (2.5 TBI)

My donor vehicle is a 1998 explorer. I'm taking the engine, engine elec., and rear-end.

What should I do with the front end? I want a good front end. Need advice here.

I'm going to find a heavy duty truck 4 speed. Not sure what I'm going to do about the transfer case...need advice there too.

What about brakes? I'm converting to a disc rear end...so I'm *assuming* I'll be needing the booster out of the explorer. Not too sure about the brakes...

I prolly need to talk to some guys who have done this before.

i am luck on htat part, this one is good as it sits. the guy is an a&p and rebuilt it about 6 years ago. it has lived hte easy life of being a ranch truck and just running up and down the senderos and then coming into town once in a while

Okay so I'd really like to get away with using zero adapter plates for the trans and tcase.

Will the t18 bolt up to the 5.0?

I'd like to use the Dana 300 twin stick...but then again I don't want to pay the $500 for the adapter plate.

At any rate...if I didn't use the 300 id like to go with something that will bolt to the t18. 205? Keep in mind I'll be putting down around 320 ft lb of torque.

Im doing a similar swap, only my donor vehicle is my girls former daily driver 00 Mountaineer with the 5.0. Im definitely going a different route than most but wont be starting that for a little bit. Just got the body off, replacing all of the sheet metal and I still have some ideas to work out. Springs top replace, etc. Im curious, what have people done for the tcase shifter? Somehow re used the YJ linkage? SOmething else? It seems like in most cases the shifter would end up under the drivers seat. Trying to picture it in my head but its hard to with the body off.

Collin, a 205 will hold anything you can throw at it.....90 percent of the pull trucks have them. I am using one on my GE project and that honey should do 550 or so at the crank.

All you need is a SBF bellhousing and your good to go as all the ford 4 speeds use the same flange circle.

Zero, most of us go back to the 80's and 70's for the transfercases simply because they are easier to adapt and stronger. If you used a 205 for instance, you just use the ford shifter and it puts it right in the same place as a stock YJ one sits

Okay I'm picking up a 205 tomorrow. Came out of a '77 highboy.

Then hopefully Sunday I'll be picking up an NP435 with the granny low.

So the bell housing....where the heck can I find one?

Yea that's what I said...but this highboy does in fact have a married 205 behind its c6. I verified pics.

He said the previous owner did some restoration. Whatever.

At any rate, I think I'd like to go hydraulic. Is that even possible? Would I be able to use my old hydraulic stuff?

ok then someone has denutted the highboy lol.....regardless as long as its married it will work for you. The only bell housing you can use is one from a 83-87 F250 with a windsor in it. I have some pics of mine in my RJ thread. They are really hard to find I can tell you that. You have to get different hydraulics and parts mike is working on that ratio for me right now.....also you have to make sure you get the right clutch, which I am also working on right now

Found this yesterday. He says the top cover is aluminum. NP435!

Only thing is...the pic looks like a 2wd trans? He says its 4x4....with a married case. Maybe I'm confused. Need input!
